Sikhara

Sikhara exists in a constant state of motion, claiming no land as home. They have performed nearly 500 concerts in more than 25 countries across three continents. This rotating members project, lead by Scott Nydegger was co-founded by drummer Sam Lohman (Sheer Terror/Nimrod/36/Cash Slave Clique) and synth player Paul Beauchamp (Diviner/ Blind Cave Salamander) in 1999.

Utilizing both machinery and acoustic elements, Sikhara creates a disturbed enviroment of ritualistic sound. Manipulated sources of primitive voices are collaged into a hypnotic new language, which melds instinctively with animalistic tribal percussion.

Numerous Sikhara releases are available on cd and vinyl, but from conception, it is foremost a live band. On stage, Sikhara manifests itself in a trance induced mayhem, blurring the lines between the music and the audience. Having given concerts in a variety of conventional venues such as clubs theaters and galleries, a constant theme of Sikhara is to seek out somehow extraordinary locales. Amongst the examples of these events are: Directly next door to the police station in the bustling Taxim district of Istanbul, Turkey, deep within the tunnels of a Polish coal mine, an abandoned metro passage underneath the city of Linz, Austria, and within the 1400 year old Zenjouki Temple near Kobe, Japan. For this session, they were joined by the master monk of the temple, who was born 55 years earlier in the same room.

Their first ever "live" album is in fact captured in the studios of two of the finest radio stations in America, WFMU and KFJC. The two sets from which this disc was culled were from the Bardos States and Anduni USA tour respectively.

During the years 2007 - 2008, Sikhara toured relentlessly in Europe, but did not step foot on American ground. Yet each year since then, they have managed an annual cross country excursion. These recordings capture Sikhara in fine mid-tour form and are the closest recordings to the live Sikhara spectacle the band has released to date. Featuring Steve Mackay (of Iggy and the Stooges). Cover designed by Frank Suchomel.

"This hard-working ever-touring combo presents rhythm tracks you could refer to as Liars or maybe Flowers of Romance era PiL,...The energy in the music references what we used to hear during the heyday of the Industrial bands. It’s exciting..." - Ptolemaic Terrascope

"...the name Crash Worship pops into my head, but perhaps also a bit of Test Department or Einsturzende Neubauten..." - Vital Weekly

"...a particularly nice melding and layering of sounds, with not only a jazz vibe and instruments, but percussive accents and buried operatic vocals..." -KFJC
